Residents and commuters in and around Ketu, in Kosofe Local Council of Lagos State, are living in fear due to a series of robberies at night.

The audacious robberies resulted in injuries to over 10 people, including children.

An eyewitness named Oghenetega Best stated that the incidents, which began on August 29 and continued until August 30, caused widespread panic and disruption in the area.

Best, who was returning from work on Thursday night, described the incident as “an eyesore.”

He mentioned that many residents and passers-by were injured while trying to seek safety.

“I have a shop in Mushin where I sell foodstuffs. While returning from work, as we approached Ketu, there was traffic, and suddenly people started shouting. Before we knew what was happening, cars were being hijacked, and people were being robbed and beaten,” he said.

Another eyewitness, who requested anonymity, claimed that the unrest began in Ojota and spread to Ketu.

“The night robbery attacks are targeting commuters, including those returning late from work, and have caused significant unrest in the community. Despite the severity of the situation, there has been no official statement or response from the authorities, leaving residents feeling vulnerable and scared.

“The lack of response has only added to the fear and anxiety, with many calling for urgent action to be taken to address the situation and ensure public safety, especially at night,” he added.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, has yet to respond to enquiries about the incident.
