THEIR earnest prayer always has been for God to help them as Rotarians to live as they profess: to dignify their daily task and serve in selflessness.
For the members of Rotary Club of Apo in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja the prayer has been accomplished through their numerous works of charity.
And recently it was the turn of 30 women in Dutse village, Apo to have a feel of their milk of human kindness.
The 30 women got a non-interest loan of N10,000 each to do businesses of their choice .
For the beneficiaries, it was a gift that touched their innermost being because the most of them had been living from hand to mout .
Speaking at the event, the Rotary District Governor 9125, Mike Motosho, who said that the club has been doing a lot in the community, noted that their action was in line with the club’s theme of the year.
“We are here to commission the community empowerment Programme sponsored by Rotary Club of Dutse, Apo.”
As you are aware, we have been working in this community for the past four years. We have built a hospital, equipped the primary school. We have also brought the transformer here. We have dug boreholes everywhere. We have done a lot but currently what we are doing is empowering 30 women. You are aware that the theme of this Rotary year is ‘be a gift to the world.’ Rotary Club of Apo has been a gift to women of the community so that the women can also be a gift to others,” he said.
Advising the beneficiaries, Motosho said: “Our advice to the beneficiaries is to spend the money wisely and to recognize that it is not a gift, it is a loan. They should use it to boost their business and make their business better and then return it so that others will have the opportunity to access it. They have been doing it and we will continue to remind them to do that.”
The President Rotary Club of Apo, Mrs. Agatha Akase, expressed joy over the loan, adding that it would help the beneficiaries to be self-reliant.
District Governor nominee, Nnoka Mbanefo, advised the women to continue to be honest.
“One of the beneficiaries, Jummai Emmanuel, expressed her appreciation to the club, adding that the loan when maximised, would make them rich.
“I want to thank God for opening the door for us and for making us to be among the beneficiaries of this kindness from the Rotary Club. We are better off now because of this programme . I believe that through this money we will become millionaires,’’ she said.
