
Rotary Club of Gowon Estate carried out three significant projects during the visit of the District Governor (Lagos and Ogun states), Rotary International, District 9111, Dr. Wole Kukoyi.
The first project commissioned was the beautification of the roundabout at 31 Road Circle and at 11 Road Circle, both at Gowon Estate. The third project was the empowerment of four women with grinding machines put at a cost of about N300,000.00 each.
Kukoyi described the beautification of the two roundabouts as wonderful, fantastic and well- landscaped. He regarded as positive public image the Rotary Four-Way Test showcased at the two roundabouts and other information to boost Rotary membership in the axis.
He also lauded the empowerment of the women made up of widows and others and enjoined them to use the machines for the purpose they were given.
The President, Rotary Club of Gowon Estate, Olayiwola Ajayi , said he was privileged to commission the three projects during the District Governor’s visit due to commitment to service by the members.
He said the roundabouts in addition to contributing to the beautification and infrastructural development of Gowon Estate, would also allow free flow of traffic and safety of road users.
He put the cost of the beautification of the two roundabouts at N8 million while the four grinding machines cost about N300,000.00 each.
He disclosed that the club would contribute the sum of $15,000 to Rotary foundation of which it is close to $10,000, also contribute handsomely to District Educational and Welfare Endowment Fund (DEWEF) and sponsor youths to Rotary Youth Leaders Academy (RYLA).
Chairman, Committee on DG’s visit, Jemilo Bawakata said it was a hitch free preparation.
