Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has underscored the importance of residents taking responsibility for public infrastructure and ensuring it is not misused or vandalised.
Speaking on Thursday, at the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated network of five roads in Ikeja GRA, the governor warned against acts like vandalism and the dumping of refuse, which could damage the streets.
The roads commissioned include Oba Dosunmu Street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Sobo Arobiodun Street, and Sasegbon Street, totaling 6.134 kilometers in length.
The governor further said, “These roads are not just the government’s; they belong to all of us. Let’s protect and care for them,” he urged.
He also assured Lagosians that other road projects under construction would be completed and commissioned before the end of his tenure.
Sanwo-Olu commended the contractors, Messrs Slavabogu Nigeria Limited, for their professionalism and quality work. He emphasized that the newly upgraded roads would ease traffic, improve connectivity, and help address the flooding issues that have troubled the area for years.

He reaffirmed his commitment to building quality infrastructure across the state. He thanked the residents of Ikeja GRA for their patience during the construction period and encouraged them to help sustain the gains of the project.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Allen Onyema, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, urging him to continue his service to the people.

“I don’t care who holds power, as long as it benefits Nigerians,” Onyema said. He encouraged the governor to remain steadfast in delivering infrastructure that uplifts lives.
Dr. Olufemi Daramola, the Special Adviser on Infrastructure, also spoke at the event, noting that the rehabilitation of Ikeja GRA roads was part of a larger urban renewal project.
He explained that the area, once exclusively residential, had evolved into a bustling commercial hub, leading to environmental and infrastructural challenges.
“The rehabilitated roads now feature improved drainage systems, better road surfaces, and solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and functionality. The upgrades are in line with the government’s THEMES+ agenda, which focuses on improving transportation and traffic management in Lagos,” Daramola stated.
The event, held in Ikeja, was attended by prominent figures, including Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat; Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Dr. Mujidat Folashade Ojo; Chairman of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema; and former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose.
