Residents of Munga Lalau and Munga Doso communities in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, on Saturday, buried scores of villagers killed by suspected herdsmen.

Reports revealed that 50 suspected herdsmen invaded the communities on motorcycles around 2 am on Friday and opened fire indiscriminately on sleeping residents.

An eyewitness account who described the massacre as calculated killing revealed that the sound of gunshots that rent the air was beyond conventional herdsmen as residents fled to the mountains and returned home the next morning to see their houses razed.

According to the Chairman of the Munga Youth Forum, Suleiman Joel, the attackers who were armed with AK-47 rifles and machetes ransacked every homes, killing anyone in sight and burned down houses.

A Community leader, who lost loved ones in the attack, Augustine Munga, called for immediate government intervention to end the bloodshed and bring the perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, Governor Agbu Kefas has condemned the attacks and vowed to bring the assailants to book.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, Kefas reiterated his commitment to secure the state from external attacks and other forms of terrorism.
