Security operatives arrest suspected abductors of Ondo varsity staff members

Security operatives have arrested three suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the abduction of two senior officials from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State.

The suspects were apprehended shortly after Omoniyi Eleyinmi, the Faculty Officer of the Faculty of Education, was released following the payment of an undisclosed ransom.

Eleyinmi was abducted along with another staff member of the university last Monday at his residence in Supare Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Council of the state. His abductors had demanded a ransom of N7 million before his release.

The suspects were arrested in a forest near Ago Panu, a village between Oba-Akoko and Owo, while allegedly sharing the ransom money.

Security sources disclosed that the suspects had been closely monitored by security operatives since the abduction, and their arrest was made possible through intelligence gathering.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspects are currently being interrogated.

He said, “Our operatives have arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the abduction of two AAUA lecturers. The suspects are currently undergoing profiling and interrogation.

“The Ondo State Police Command, CP Adebowale Lawal, has instructed that the suspects and all recovered evidence be transferred to the anti-kidnapping squad for a thorough investigation.”
