Senator Natasha to give constituents Made-in-Nigeria electric vehicles

In a bold move to promote sustainable development and green innovation, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is set to empower more than 100 constituents, especially women, with locally assembled electric vehicles made in Nigeria.

The initiative forms part of her annual constituency empowerment programme, an effort she describes as her “ritual” of giving back to her people.

According to Udensi Bernard, whose team has been working with the senator on the project, the journey began two weeks ago when Senator Natasha paid an unexpected visit to his office, accompanied by her husband.

“Without wasting time, she said, ‘I want to carry out my yearly empowerment, but this time, I want to empower my people with electric vehicles,'” Bernard recounted.
Since that visit, work has been underway to assemble the various electric vehicle models carefully selected by the senator for distribution — all proudly manufactured and assembled in Nigeria.

The programme, expected to be unveiled soon, will provide a major boost to local enterprise and mobility in Kogi Central, particularly for women, farmers, and small business owners.

Electric vehicles, Bernard noted, offer long-term economic and environmental benefits: reduced fuel costs, minimal maintenance, and cleaner energy use.

“For farmers, they make it easier to move produce to markets. For business owners, they cut logistics costs. For transport operators, they increase profits while reducing dependence on petrol and diesel,” he said.

Beyond economic empowerment, the initiative is designed to promote renewable energy awareness, inspire youth innovation, and align with Nigeria’s broader transition toward sustainable technologies.

Senator Natasha’s initiative is not just empowerment,” Bernard added. “It’s a visionary step toward a cleaner, smarter, and more self-reliant Nigeria.”

The official unveiling of the vehicles is expected soon.

Since the Senator resumed after a six-month suspension, she has hit the ground running, with her constituency’s agenda uppermost in mind.
