Tanker with 15,000 litres of AGO falls, spills content in Ibadan

A tanker carrying 15,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) has crashed and spilled it’s content in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The incident occurred at the Toll Gate Area on the Ibadan/Ife Expressway in Ibadan.

The tanker reportedly lost control whilst in motion and swerved off the road.

As gathered, the accident was due to the driver’s lack of absolute concentration.

The incident resulted in traffic congestion in the area.

In a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident.

He said, “The incident was reported at exactly 20:11hrs on Wednesday 25th June,2025.

“The agency’s personnel, led by CFS Adedeji, swiftly responded to the emergency call. On arrival, we met a fallen MAN trailer tanker with registration number EPE299XN (LAGOS) of 15,000 litres capacity, loaded with Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), which had lost control while in motion and swerved to the roadside, with its content gushing out. We quickly covered the spillage with chemical foam compound to neutralise the flame of the liquid, which can trigger naked fire from a close or distant place.

“The accident was due to a lack of absolute concentration whilst driving by the truck driver. Vehicular movement has been restored to the road.”

The fire service chairman added that the FRSC was at the scene of the accident to control the traffic.
