Three physically challenged men arrested for tricycle theft

Three physically challenged men—Mande Bello, 30; Samsudeen Usman, 23; and Gazali—have been accused of attempting to strangle a tricyclist and steal his vehicle.

On October 10, 2024, a physically challenged tricycle rider reported the incident at Denton Police Station. According to his account, on October 9, 2024, around 8 p.m., he picked up the trio at Boson Roundabout, Oyingbo, after they requested a ride from General Pay Aja.

The tricyclist said the men asked him to drop them at the Third Mainland Bridge intersection, but he initially refused. However, when he finally agreed to stop at the requested location, Mande Bello allegedly pulled out a cable wire and attempted to strangle him.

The rider fought them off and managed to return to Okobaba with two of the suspects, Bello and Usman, while Gazali fled the scene.

Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the arrest of Bello and Usman following the report.

Their statements have been taken as part of the investigation.

Preliminary findings reveal that the three suspects are involved in tricycle theft operations targeting unsuspecting riders in the state.

“The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the third suspect,” Hundeyin said.
