Troops of 6 Brigade, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have destroyed several bandit camps and recovered ammunition in Taraba State.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Capt. Olubodunde Oni, disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Jalingo .

He said the successes were achieved during clearance operations under the Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Kingsley Uwa, across multiple bandit hideouts in the state.

“The operation, codenamed Operation Golden Peace, commenced after extensive confidence-building patrols, clearance missions, and stakeholder engagements, which proved effective in the northern part of the state,” the statement read.

According to Oni, the latest phase of the operation began on November 28, 2024, in Takum Local Council, targeting known bandit and terrorist hideouts around Lijam High Ground.

The operation reportedly led to the destruction of several camps and the recovery of 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one AK-47 magazine, a handheld Baofeng radio, and two motorcycles.

“To further solidify the safety of residents, troops extended their operations to the Akume and Ananum areas of Donga Local Council on November 30, 2024, reinforcing the Brigade’s commitment to securing lives and property throughout Taraba State,” the statement added.

The commander of the 6 Brigade commended the troops for their efforts, urging them to remain vigilant.

“Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” he said. “This is our determined effort to provide a safe environment for the ongoing farm harvest season, the forthcoming yuletide, and to ensure the state does not become a safe haven for criminals.”
