Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have killed eight fighters of the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) during an ambush in Borno State.
The encounter occurred in the early hours of Sunday, September 14, 2025, near Garin Giwa along the Baga–Cross-Kauwa road in Kukawa Local Council.
A military source, confirming the development yesterday in Maiduguri, said the slain terrorists included Modu Munzir of Dogon Chukun and Abu Aisha Quaid, both notorious insurgents operating in the Lake Chad region spanning Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad.
According to the source, several other fighters fled with gunshot wounds towards the Lake Chad area on foot after the ambush. He added that 14 motorcycles used by the terrorists in their foiled attack on troops in the Kukawa–Monguno axis were seized, forcing the insurgents to abandon their mobility and escape in disarray.
Commending the troops, the OPHK Theatre Command noted that the operation had further degraded ISWAP’s logistics and limited their freedom of movement within the insurgency-hit Lake Chad Basin.
