Troops from Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), in a coordinated effort with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have captured a suspected Boko Haram logistics supplier in Maiduguri, Borno State.
An independent security analyst and insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, released a statement in Maiduguri yesterday, revealing that the suspect, identified as Ahmadu Mohammed, was arrested on Monday at Muna Garage along the Maiduguri-Dikwa road about 11.50am.
The arrest was made based on a credible intelligence from locals.
According to the security analyst, Mohammed was intercepted by troops while attempting to deliver petrol disguised in energy drink plastic bottles hidden in 12 sacks to bypass security at the garage.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to supplying fuel to terrorists in the Sambisa Forest, and surrounding communities.
He also admitted to transporting fuel to Gambouru/Ngala, a border community with Cameroon, believed to be a major logistics route for terrorist attacks in the Lake Chad region encompassing Niger, Chad and Cameroon.
Items recovered from the suspect included charms, suspected drugs, coloured rings, syringes and personal effects.
Security sources in Maiduguri confirmed that the arrest was part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the region, aiming to disrupt Boko Haram’s logistics and financial networks in the North-East.
Mohammed is cooling his heels in military custody as investigation into his operations continues.
