The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a woman, Beauty Monday, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her neighbour during an argument in Lugbe, Abuja.

The Force also arrested a 32-year-old man, Nwogba Arinze, over alleged impersonation of the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof Segun Aina.

In the Lugbe incident, the police said Monday was arrested after allegedly pouring a pot of boiling water on her neighbour, Gift Amos, during an argument over the use of a shared compound space.

The command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the incident occurred on September 4, 2026, while the report was received at the Lugbe Police Division on September 6 at about 3:30 p.m.

According to her, preliminary investigations revealed that Amos had moved the suspect’s pot of boiling water from a stove to the portion of the compound allocated to Monday.

She said the action angered the suspect, who allegedly picked up the pot and poured the boiling water on Amos’s back, leaving her with serious burns and other injuries.

Adeh said the victim was receiving medical attention, while the suspect had been arraigned before a court and remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.

The case was adjourned until September 16, 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and exercise restraint when resolving disagreements.

He also advised members of the public against resorting to self-help or violence, urging them to seek lawful means of settling disputes.

In a separate case, the police arrested Arinze in August 2026 in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, following a petition by the JAMB Registrar.

The Force said Arinze and an accomplice allegedly created and operated a telephone number using the Registrar’s name, photograph and office details on WhatsApp, Truecaller and LinkedIn without authorisation.

The suspects allegedly used the fake identity to solicit members of the public for purported government and JAMB contracts, demanding between N900,000 and N3 million as processing fees and alleged bribes to influence officials of the Ministry of Education.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led investigation by the Police Intelligence, Operations and Investigation Unit deployed to JAMB headquarters after approval of the petition by the Inspector-General of Police.

Police said investigations spanning the FCT, Nasarawa, Anambra and Ebonyi states established a prima facie case against Arinze under relevant provisions of the Cybercrimes Act.

Recovered from him were an Access Bank ATM card and an Airtel SIM card registered in the name of the late Edeh Chimezie Benedict, allegedly used to receive proceeds of the fraud, as well as Benedict’s burial poster.

The police said a second principal suspect, Nnabuife Nwekpa of Onitsha, Anambra State, remained at large, adding that processes had commenced to declare him wanted.

The Force warned that the JAMB Registrar does not award contracts or solicit payments through WhatsApp or other social media platforms, stressing that official communications are made only through verified channels.

Arinze is expected to be arraigned after the completion of administrative procedures.
