Woman nabbed for child abuse, molestation in Anambra

Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old woman, Ms Amarachukwu Nzekwe, for the alleged abuse and molestation of a 13-year-old boy.

Nzekwe, a nurse, was alleged to have burnt the child, her nephew, with a laundry iron following an accusation of stealing.

The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Ify Obinabo, told reporters in Awka that ministry officials handed the woman over to the police.

Obinabo said the ministry was drawn to the incident through a viral video on August 18.

“Officials of the ministry swung into action knowing Governor Charles Soludo’s zero-tolerance on child abuse. We went in search of the alleged abuser, found her, and handed her over to the police for further investigation,” she said.

The commissioner said the alleged abuser, an indigene of Ezinifite in Aguata Local Council, would be prosecuted as soon as investigations were concluded.

She expressed concern over the injury inflicted on the teenager, describing it as brutal and unfair.

“We shall follow the matter to the end. Justice must be done so that it will act as a deterrent to others who may want to indulge in similar acts,” she added.
