Yobe parents mourn loss of quadruplets as one baby survives

Tragedy has befallen the family of Alhaji Baba Habu and Hajiya Amina in Yobe State following the deaths of three of their quadruplets, who were placed in incubators at the Specialist Hospital, Potiskum.

The babies were born prematurely last Tuesday at the General Hospital, Fika, about 54 kilometres from Potiskum, before being referred to the Specialist Hospital for proper medical care.

The surviving infant, a boy, was named Mohammed on Tuesday, seven days after the birth. He was named after the Emir of Fika, Alhaji Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa.

The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), led by its Executive Secretary, Dr Mohammed Goje, has been supporting the parents since the delivery.

Speaking in Damaturu, Goje said the agency was committed to assisting the grieving family with means of livelihood. He noted that they deserved not only food and non-food relief items but also spiritual support.

“The agency is committed to support the father and mother of the quadruplets with means of livelihoods,” he said. “They deserve to be supported not only with food and non-food items, but with prayers and fasting for the three departed babies and the surviving infant.”

The incident has attracted support from the state government, traditional leaders and community members.

Who have rallied around the family to offer relief amid the tragedy.

In a brief response, Habu expressed gratitude to SEMA and individuals who extended help during the difficult week, both in cash and kind.
