The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) in collaboration with Action Against Hunger (ACF), has unveiled N80m cash-for-food to 898 household flood and windstorm victims in the state.
According to the Agency, the windstorm and flood-affected victims are residents of Fune, Fika and Potiskum local councils of the state.
Disbursing the cash-for-food, on Friday, in Potiskum, Yobe State, SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Goje said: “The N80m cash-for-food is under the Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) programme of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s disaster emergency plans to support the recovery of victims from flood and other disasters, that are claiming many lives and property in the state,” adding that it would help the victims meet their basic needs of life, while they rebuild their lives in communities.
He noted that the cash-for-food support has complemented the cash-for-rent programme to ensure access to shelters in the three flood-affected local council areas.
Highlighting the emergency interventions, Goje stated: “We will continue to collaborate with development partners and other humanitarian agencies by mobilising more capital and human resources for the delivery of life-saving assistance, including food and shelter.”
He noted that the emergency flood response could sustain people’s resilience to not only floods, but also other disasters that had been destroying both lives and property in the state..
