Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic killing of nine Community Protection Guards, who were ambushed by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area. The gruesome attack occurred on Monday, as the security personnel manned a checkpoint on the outskirts of Tsafe.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal condemned the ambush as a “barbaric act” committed by bandits who had been scattered by recent military operations across the state. Despite the significant blow, the Governor praised the bravery and dedication of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards and other security forces for their ongoing efforts to safeguard lives amid the ongoing insecurity.

“I received the unfortunate report of an ambush by bandits yesterday in Tsafe Local Government Area, during which nine officers of our brave Community Protection Guards were killed,” Lawal stated. He emphasised that the ambush was a cowardly act by bandits desperate and on the run due to the renewed military onslaught against them.

Governor Lawal reassured citizens that security forces would continue to pursue the terrorists relentlessly, aiming to defeat banditry not only in Zamfara but across the entire region. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the fallen guards, promising that their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

“Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” Lawal said. “My government is committed to providing all necessary support to the families of the frontline guards who lost their lives. I also hope that those injured recover swiftly.”

Zamfara State, like many parts of northern Nigeria, has been grappling with banditry and insurgency, with security forces intensifying efforts to restore peace and security. The latest attack underscores the challenges faced by security personnel on the ground, yet the government’s resolve to protect its people remains unwavering.
