Some residents of Bungudu and Maru Local Government Areas of Zamfara State are taking refuge with their relatives and neighbors almost one month after a windstorm struck their community.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) made this revelation after its officials conducted an assessment of the windstorm incident which occurred on May 15. NEMA disclosed the outcome of the assessment in a post it shared on X on Tuesday.
The agency revealed that the windstorm affected 300 houses in nine communities. It highlighted the affected communities as nine communities: Hayin-Gebe, Sabon Fegi, Furfuri, Sabon Gari Furfuri, FGGC, Mamula/Yarkuka, Kofar Yamma, Rawuya, and Baila.
“Approximately 300 houses were damaged, with reports of collapsed walls and fences, blown-off rooftops, and disruptions to public facilities. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were recorded.
“While some affected residents have begun partial rehabilitation of their homes, others are currently taking refuge with relatives and neighbors,” NEMA noted.
It further noted that assessment was also supported by members of the affected communities and the representative of Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency in the National House of Representatives.
