Zulum backs Taraba greenhouse initiative to combat looming food crisis

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has commended the Taraba State Green House Project, also known as the Cucumber Farm, saying that the project would boost food security and mitigate hunger across the North-East and the country at large.

Zulum gave the commendation while commissioning the re-modelled facility in Jalingo during the North-East Governors’ Forum Summit, where the governors raised concerns over looming food shortages next year.

A recent report by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) raised the alarm over an impending food crisis in Nigeria, predicting that 30.6 million people will face acute food and nutrition insecurity.

The FAO’s analysis highlights that the North-eastern states will bear the brunt of this crisis. The Taraba State’s Greenhouse project in July 2025, achieved its first substantial harvest of green peppers and cucumbers.
