Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has called on the armed forces to intensify efforts to track and neutralise suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.

On Sunday 12 January 2025, suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists attacked some farmers and fishermen at Dumba community, near Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area leaving 40 people dead.

Zulum in a statement on Monday described the attack as a heinous act of violence.

He called on the officers and men of Operation Hadin Kai to track and obliterate the insurgent elements that are operating at Dumba and other similar enclaves in the Lake Chad Area.

Zulum also commiserated with the victims and their families while assuring that those still missing would be found and reunited with their families.

“With deep sorrow and anguish, I received the sad news of the attack on Dumba where scores of our farmers and fishermen were killed by the terrorists. On behalf of the government, I sympathise with the victims’ families,” he said.

“Let me assure the citizens of Borno that this matter will be thoroughly investigated for further necessary action. Let me use this opportunity to call on the armed forces to track and deal decisively with the perpetrators of this heinous act of violence against our innocent citizens.”

The governor also noted the importance of clearing terrorist enclaves in the Lake Chad region, where the attack occurred.

He said initial investigations revealed that the victims had strayed beyond a security corridor demarcated by the government and military, venturing into areas yet to be cleared of insurgents and landmines.

Zulum called on citizens not to venture beyond the safety zones demarcated by the government and security agencies.
