MR. Akinwunmi Ambode, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for Lagos State has called on law enforcement agents to provide adequate security for all the parties involved in the coming election without any bias for any party. He said this would further enhance the democratic process in Nigeria.

Ambode made this call at the stakeholders interactive meeting with the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies and political parties in Lagos.

According to Ambode, there is need to build agencies like the Police and Directorate of Security Services (DSS) and other parastatals as enduring institutions. They must rise above partisan politics and not be subject to the whims of any political office holders.

“Enduring institutions are vital to the success of the democratic experiment in Nigeria. There roles are to provide adequate security for all the parties involved in campaigns, during the election and after the election, and also ensure that hoodlums do not attack perceived opponents,” he stated.

The APC governorship candidate also urged security agencies to improve on their intelligence gathering, so, as to preempt the activities of criminals before they occur, as is done in other climes so as to reduce crimes and attacks on political organisations across the country.

The emphasis is that security agents must not only be impartial, but be seen to be impartial in their treatment of all the political parties involved in the coming elections. He commended the promise by INEC to conduct a free and fair election and express his hope that they will make everything possible to keep this promise to Nigerians.

Ambode, who believes that Nigerians are itching for a change and are ready to vote for credible candidates with track records of excellence in the coming election should not be frustrated by any iota of bias or partiality on the part of security agents or the electoral umpire.
