Enugu PDP alleges campaign of calumny against her candidates
THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Enugu State has raised the alarm over what it described as plot by some political opponents in the state to mount a campaign of calumny against its candidates in the 2015 election, particularly the gubernatorial candidate Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
A statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity of PDP Campaign Organization in the State, Chukwudi Achife, said the party has uncovered a plot led by the gubernatorial candidate of a major opposition party to spread false stories through street newspapers and the social media about Ugwuanyi in a desperate bid to smear his image and reputation before his supporters in and outside the state.
Achife said the antics of the opposition candidate allegedly behind the smear campaign, was not surprising since “he is known as a person who has neither conscience nor a defined agenda for the development and emancipation of Enugu State” and who was resorting to a campaign of falsehood as his only hope of making any impact whatsoever among the people .
The PDP Campaign spokesman however stressed that the move, like in previous occasions, was bound to fail and boomerang against its originator.
While warning that the PDP would not sit back and allow its image and that of its candidates to be smeared through falsehood in the name of politics, Achife advised the general public to ignore such antics from a politician known for “his crass desperation to occupy the Lion Building by any possible means”.
Meanwhile, Ugwuanyi has said he would make job creation and the empowerment of youths one of the cardinal policies of his administration while consolidating on the good achievements of Governor Sullivan Chime.
Ugwuanyi who was speaking during a campaign rally at Awgu, noted that Chime had set a template for good governance that would be impossible to deviate from.
He expressed satisfaction with the location of a world class pineapple farm at Awgu which has turned Enugu State into a major exporter of the product and pledged to ensure that the project and others established by the government in the area, were not only sustained but expanded.
Noting that the PDP was like a religion in Enugu State, he urged the people to translate their massive support into votes by ensuring that they not only collected their permanent voters’ cards but turned up en masse to vote for the party’s candidates in the elections.
