Gombe Assembly elects new Speaker, others

GOMBE State House of Assembly has elected Alhaji Nasiru Nono of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Deba Constituency, as Speaker.

Alhaji Kawu Musa, a member representing Nafada South, also of the PDP, was elected as the Deputy Speaker.

The House also unanimously agreed and nominated other principal officers unopposed.

They are Mr. Fabalouse Amos of the PDP representing Shongom Constituency (Leader of the House); Ahmed Doho of Kwami East (Deputy House Leader); Ghandi Yaro of Balanga North (Majority Whip) and Mohammed Magaji of Akko Central (Deputy Whip).

Others are Alhaji Ahmed Haruna of APC Gombe North, (Minority Leader); Alhaji Magaji Jungudo of Funakaye North (Deputy Minority Leader); Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq of Yamaltu West (Minority Whip) and Alhaji Musa Mohammed of Akko North (Deputy Minority Whip.)

While speaking with journalists, Nono thanked the people of his constituency for re-electing him and also thanked the members for electing him as the Speaker.

In another development, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has disclosed that it has distributed food items to 1,200 Internally-Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

Speaking during the presentation, National Vice President, JNI, who is the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, said the gesture was from the headquarters of JNI to assist the less-privileged, especially the internally-displaced persons.

He said it is not everybody that would benefit from the items as the committee had all ready completed its assignment and given out cards to the accredited beneficiaries who will be considered during the distribution.

“We received 1,200 bags of rice and vegetable oil from the national headquarters for the less-privileged people and immediately we set a committee to identify those who supposed to benefit from the gesture.

Also speaking, the Secretary-General, Gombe State JNI, Alhaji Sale Danburam, also called on those who had not benefited to be patient as they would be considered next time if there is any other assistance.

He said the committee had done it best according to the guidelines set for it.

According to him, the committee would go to various local councils to distribute the items to the beneficiaries in their respective areas.

Malam Mohammed Isge, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the Emir and the JNI for the gesture, saying that they were in need of such assistance as the Ramadan is approaching which would help them a lot with their families.
