Lagos lawmaker hopeful of cordial APC, PDP bond

LAGOS House of Assembly member representing Oshodi/Isolo constituency, Jude Idimogu, has expressed the hope of a harmonious relationship between his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) colleagues and their All Progressives Congress (APC) counterparts in their quest to move the state forward.

Idimogu, told newsmen after their inauguration and proclamation of the eighth Assembly yesterday at Ikeja that party differences, though normal, should not necessarily be antagonistic and factional, as they all have a common objective to take the state to higher highs through sound legislation.
Meanwhile, women organizations in Lagos State yesterday told members of the State House of Assembly it was high time they elected a female speaker.

Noting that they were not elected in error, Idimogu said based on the confidence of the electorate, he assured that the six PDP members in the House would rather lobby, which is the mature and acceptable tool to achieve the needs of his constituency and Lagosians in general; than a resort to unhealthy in-fighting.

The women groups solicited support for the candidacy of Mrs. Funmilayo Tejuosho as one of the top officers of the Lagos House of Assembly.

Executive Director of the Women Advocates Research and Documentation Center, (WARDC) and the coordinator of the State Gender Dialogue platform, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi told The Guardian yesterday, “We believe that Hon. Tejuoso is a top ranking female legislator, has the desired educational qualification, background and has at several times support pro-people initiatives and laws in the house.

Also, South West Coordinator of Women Empowerment Unit of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, and the Executive Director, Women Consortium of Nigeria (WOCON), Chief Mrs. Olabisi Olateru Olagbegi, said, “Hon Tejuosho is tested, she was twice a principal officer and as such very familiar with the rules of the house being one of the oldest in the parliament. Lagos is ripe for a female speaker and it will amount to gender discrimination if Tejuosho does not emerge.”
