THE chances of Newman Akpore winning the April 11 polls for the Delta State House of Assembly, Ughelli North Constituency 1 received a boost at the weekend when the Ovie of Agbarha-Otor Kingdom, HRM Richard Oghenevwogaga Ebelle, Okorefe 1 endorsed him and gave him his royal blessing.

The event occurred when Akpore visited the Ovie to seek his blessing for his ambition to represent the Ogor, Agbarha-Otor, Orogun and Evwreni, which make up the constituency.

Director of Media and Publicity of the Akpore Campaign Organization said others in Akpore’s delegation to the Ovie included notable Agbarha-Otor sons like Chief Esike, Dcn Godspower Azugo and other supporters from the various towns that make up the constituency.

In his response, the Ovie assured Akpore of support from the people of Agbarah-Otor, stating: “You are the first House of Assembly candidate to visit me and by that you are assured of my support. I am sounding it loud and clear that we, as a kingdom will not endorse any other candidate that comes to seek for our support in this position that you are vying for. We will work for you, but when we work for you, and you win, you should also work for us, and when you work for us, it is your work that will campaign for you after four years.”

High point of the occasion was when, during his prayers for Akpore, the Ovie laid one hand on Akpore’s head while clutching a Bible with the other hand, with approving chants of “iyete!” “ajuwe!” “digital ovie!” “Wo sun tor!” rented the air from the Agbarah-Otor people. The Bible was afterwards presented to Akpore by the Ovie, with an admonition to serve the people with the fear of God.
