Move Bayero out of Kano, Deputy governor tells Tinubu

The protracted battle for the throne of the Kano emirate took a fresh dimension on Thursday as Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, urged President Bola Tinubu to move the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, out of the state.
The Deputy Governor also faulted the police command in Kano for dispersing some aggrieved youths who went on a rampage on Wednesday to register their displeasure over the continued stay of Bayero at the Nassarawa mini palace.
Gwarzo made the appeal while addressing party loyalists at the Coronation Hall and insisted that Kano was tired of the ways and manner in which security operatives were enduring Bayero’s stay after the court affirmation of his deposition.
He lamented the continued use of police and military to oppress the state government and warned against any attempt to truncate democracy in Kano.
Gwarzo worried that the development got worse on Wednesday when the police deployed fully armed officers and military vehicles on a show of strength in the metropolis. He declared that Kano had appointed its emir.
The police command yesterday raised a fresh alert of a plot by an unknown group to organise a violent protest in Kano.
The police said 17 people have been arrested in connection with the said violent protest.
