NEMA donates drugs to Onitsha petrol tanker-fire disaster victims

SUCCOR has come the way of victims of the recent petrol tanker fire disaster in Onitsha, as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the weekend donated assorted drugs valued several millions to the various hospitals where they are receiving treatment in Anambra state.

At least 40 persons, including a pregnant woman and children, were among those who lost their lives in the fire disaster, which occurred at the Asaba Motor Park, along Upper Iweka Road in, Onitsha, recently.

Presenting the drugs to the five hospitals in Onitsha, Director- General of NEMA, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Sidi, said the gesture was aimed at assisting the hospitals and the surviving victims.

Represented by the Director, In- charge of Relief at the agency’s headquarter, Mr. Eugene Eze, Sidi stated further that

“we want to encourage the hospitals with these drugs and medical consumables for the speedy recovering of the victims”

According to him; “NEMA sympathizes with families of the victims, we share in the pains and agony they are passing through, and wants to use this opportunity to commend Doctors of the various hospitals where they are being treated for their efforts towards saving their lives.”

Sidi was accompanied by the South East zonal coordinator of NEMA, Major James Eze, and his South West counterpart, Dr. Bandele Onimode, as well as Executive Director, Anambra state Emergency Management Agency, ASEMA, chief Paul Odenigbo.

Shortly after the presentation, Sidi and his team, paid a courtesy visit on Governor Willie Obiano, at the Governor’s Lodge, where he sympathised with him, just as he stressed the need for state governments in the south east to strengthen their various State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAS).
