The National Transition Committee (NTC) of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has commended the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for suspending the NYCN Board of Trustees and establishing an Interim Management Committee to oversee the council’s affairs.
In a statement jointly signed by Chairman Gbenga Adedamola and Secretary Yahaya Baba, the committee described the move as a welcome development that has rekindled hope among members of the council, who have endured years of crisis and irregularities surrounding the organisation’s constitution.
According to the NTC, the council had long suffered from manipulation, malpractice, misrepresentation, and misinformation orchestrated by some members of the Board of Trustees.
It noted that these actions led to persistent litigation, internal conflicts, and leadership tussles at all levels, which weakened the council’s credibility and hindered its operations.
The committee said the CAC’s decision to dissolve the board and establish an Interim Management Committee would pave the way for stability, accountability, and effective reforms within the NYCN.
“The decision has been widely welcomed by NYCN members who have long yearned for transparency, reform, and good governance. With this intervention, the NYCN is set to regain its relevance and restore confidence among Nigerian youths,” the statement read.
The CAC had earlier withdrawn the registration certificate of the NYCN, citing prolonged leadership crises and multiple governance breaches.
In a letter addressed to the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the Commission invoked Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020 after conducting an extensive investigation into the council’s affairs, which have been marred by disputes for nearly two decades.
Following the withdrawal, the CAC appointed an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to manage the NYCN for one year, effective October 6, 2025.
The Federal Ministry of Youth Development has welcomed the decision, describing it as a necessary step to restore unity, legitimacy, and institutional integrity to the NYCN.
The ministry urged stakeholders, youth organisations, and development partners to support the IMC in ensuring the successful restructuring of the council.
