THE former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro has lambasted Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola over the recently introduced N10,000 examination fees for Junior Secondary Students in the state.
Obanikoro expressed his displeasure while speaking at a campaign rally organised by the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Lagos Island.
The Lagos State Government recently announced that final year students of Junior Secondary School level who are to write Junior Secondary School Certificate Examination (JSCE) in the state will pay the sum of N10,000 as examination fees.
According to Obanikoro, it is very unfortunate that the state governor who was a beneficiary of free education is now imposing on students and their parents financial hardship.
“It is simply inhuman for a governor who benefited from free education to be the one introducing N10,000 at a time of harsh economic realities. They call themselves progressive, yet they cannot give free education to the children of the poor. There is no basis for this inhuman policy and I can assure you all that the situation will be looked into,” Obanikoro said.
Similarly, the governorship candidate of PDP in the state, Jimi Agbaje assured the people that at assumption of office, his administration will give premium attention to education. He said his government will ensure all children of school age have basic as well as technical education.
Agbaje also promised to pay the state civil servants their minimum wage as well as other allowances being owed by the current administration.
