Uduaghan clarifies botched senatorial ambition, denies Obuh

GOVERNOR  Emmanuel Uduaghan Friday rationalised the decision to forfeit his senatorial ambition for the two-term incumbent occupant, James Manager, to again give the Delta South senatorial district another shot.

Uduaghan said he would have won the primary but let go the ambition for  peace, as according to him, some persons had threatened to start ‘another Warri crisis’ if they were denied the slot.

He said: “When you go to an election, you either win or lose but I am sure I would have won. I have been in government since 1999. I know the reasons behind the crisis we experienced in Warri since 1999 especially in the creeks. Till today, we are still rebuilding the destruction caused by the crisis. In 2003 when we were having primaries, the atmosphere was tensed, people left the stadium where the primaries were ongoing to exchange gun fire. I asked myself what am I going to do in the senate if people say it will lead to another round of Warri crisis. I don’t want to leave office with that type of tensed situation or cause chaos”, Uduaghan stated.

 Also, the governor denied ever supporting Tony Obuh despite popular belief in many quarters that he was propping Obuh to take over from him but had to jettison the idea when a lot of stalwarts in the ruling PDP kicked against the move. Uduaghan just replied, “who told you I was supporting Obuh” when asked to explain the Obuh plot.
