Ugochukwu Nzekwe, at the weekend, emerged the President of Former Members Imo State House of Assembly (FOMIHA). Nzekwe, who had represented Nkwerre Constituency for two terms, scored 47 votes to defeat his opponent, Inno Onwuemenyi, who garnered 20 votes, in the adjudged free, fair and credible exercise held in Imo State. He will be taking over from Ike C. Ibe, who had represented Obowo Constituency.

According to the Chairman of the electoral committee, G.A.S Amadi, who represented Owerri West Constituency in his days, 67 voters participated in the exercise. Amadi, who was also the returning officer, described the exercise as “a keenly contested election,” disclosing that 26 votes came from members in the Diaspora, while 41 members were physically present.
In the case of the Vice President, Ifeanyi Agwu secured 50 votes to defeat Innocent Eke, who got 17 votes. Gozie Nwachukwu got 38 votes to be elected Secretary, defeating Dr. Uche Oguike, who got 29 votes.The Guardian gathered that Nzekwe has political experience and trajectory spanning decades.
He was appointed by Governor Hope Uzodimma as a member of the Imo State Expanded Executive Council, and also as his Special Adviser on Public Safety.
He had defeated an incumbent Deputy Speaker of the House, Ogu Onyeama (Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the constituency election in 2003, as a member of the rested All Peoples Party (APP).
