Olubadan meets Igboho, pledges intervention over travails

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has met with Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, at his Bodija residence, pledging to intervene in his ongoing travails.

A statement from Igboho’s media office, released on Wednesday, said the closed-door meeting, held on Monday, lasted about 40 minutes and covered issues including insecurity in the South West and emerging bandit threats in parts of Kwara State.

A source disclosed that Oba Ladoja, who received Igboho and his supporters, assured that he would intervene in the activist’s challenges, particularly his declaration as wanted by the Federal Government and the freezing of his bank accounts.

Igboho was declared wanted in 2021 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which also froze his accounts over allegations of stockpiling arms. On July 1, 2021, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army stormed his Soka residence, killing two aides and arresting 13 others.

During the meeting, Igboho congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension to the throne, describing him as “a leader deeply loved by people across Ibadan, Yorubaland and beyond.”

He also expressed readiness to work with the Federal Government to strengthen security in the South West, stressing that peace and security are essential for development.

“Olubadan has been a father figure to me since his days as governor of Oyo State. I commend Kabiyesi’s leadership, humility, and enduring influence. His reign will no doubt promote peace, unity and development in Ibadanland and Yorubaland,” Igboho stated.
