Sanwo-Olu unveils Green Rail Line Project to boost Lagos transport

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has stated that a Green Line rail project connecting various parts of the state, from the Victoria Island axis to Lekki and the Free Trade Zone, including Ajah, will begin as soon as possible this year.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made this known to the press on Friday during the commissioning of the newly reconstructed Chief Yesufu Abiodun Oniru/Akiogun Road, an alternative route to the Admiralty Circle Toll Plaza in Lekki, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The governor, while encouraging members of the communities to support the Lagos State Government, said that the project will benefit the communities.

The government had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) to fund the project.

The federal government had earmarked N146.14 billion as counterpart funding for the project.
The allocated funds will be managed by MOFI on behalf of the Ministry of Transport to facilitate the project’s development.

This funding forms part of the proposed N49.74 trillion budget for the 2025 fiscal year and is included in the Ministry of Transport’s total allocation of N256.73 billion to advance its infrastructure initiatives.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotosha, stated on Monday at the citizen/media stakeholders forum organised by the ministry that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project has been signed with the Federal Government’s Ministry of Finance.

As a result, the Federal Government has designated the sum of N146.14 billion for the project.
