.Kidnappers abduct police inspector in Taraba
Suspected terrorists have killed five persons and abducted five others during an attack in Danmusa Local Council of Katsina State.
The incident, which occurred yesterday, also saw about 10 people injured.
A source said the attack occurred after the terrorists found out that one of their own had been apprehended by members of the newly-established Katsina Community Watch Corps.
The Guardian learnt that the attack led to the death of a policeman, a former council chairman, simply identified as Dauda Danmusa; one Lawal Mai-iyali, and a lecturer with Isa Kaita College of Education.
Another source, whose family house is located within the council, said the terrorists stormed the house and confiscated every handset they could find.
He, however, said that they were lucky nobody was kidnapped or injured during the incident.
Meanwhile, spokesperson for the state’s police command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, was yet to respond to inquiry regarding the incident as at the time of filing this report.
In another development, the move to address security challenges currently bedevilling Taraba State has no doubt turned out to be a mirage as kidnappers and bandits continued to go on rampage in the state.
This was lucidly noticed when an inspector of police, whose name was given as Emmanuel Yaro, was confirmed to have been kidnapped.
The state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abdullahi Usman, said the inspector was abducted in his farm at the weekend in Kurmi Local Council.
The inspector, whom he said went out to purchase food from the nearby village for workers working in his farm in Garin-Idi Village of the council, was kidnapped on his arrival.
He said: “The inspector, unknown to him that kidnappers were holding his workers hostage in the farm when he went out to buy food for them (farmers), came back only to be abducted.
“The kidnappers later released the workers earlier held hostage and went away with Inspector Yaro.”
He, however, urged persons with genuine information that would assist the police and other sister-security agencies to clamp down on the hoodlums troubling the state not to hesitate to make the information available to the operatives.
