The Renewed Hope Ambassadors (RHA) has said President Bola Tinubu is delivering far-reaching infrastructure and development projects across Northern Nigeria in fulfilment of promises made to the region during the 2023 election campaign.
The group stated this while dismissing claims in some quarters that the administration has failed to meet the expectations of the North.
In a statement issued by Tunde Rahman, Director of Media and Publicity, Renewed Hope Ambassadors, at the weekend following the conclusion of a media tour of Federal Government projects in the North-West geopolitical zone, organised in collaboration with the Presidential Media Team, the RHA said the Tinubu administration has demonstrated a strong commitment to the development of Northern Nigeria through numerous strategic projects at various stages of completion.
The inspection tour covered major project locations stretching from Zuba Junction in the Federal Capital Territory through Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa and Kebbi states.
According to the group, the Federal Government, under President Tinubu‘s Renewed Hope Agenda, initiated 260 Special Intervention Projects nationwide through the Federal Ministry of Works, with the North-West accounting for 48 ongoing projects across Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
“This represents the highest number of critical intervention infrastructure projects among the six geopolitical zones and clearly underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to the development and transformation of Northern Nigeria. These projects are expected to improve transportation, stimulate trade and agriculture, and accelerate economic growth across the region,” the statement said.
During the tour, the delegation observed extensive work on the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, including the construction of 20-centimetre-thick concrete pavement and installation of solar-powered streetlights.
The 82-kilometre Section One of the highway, being executed by Infiouest International Construction Company from Zuba Junction to beyond Jere, is nearing completion, with only about 300 metres left unfinished. Work has also commenced on Section Two, which is expected to be completed by November this year.
In Kaduna State, the team inspected the Kaduna Western Bypass, a 21-kilometre dual carriageway project that had remained stalled for over 22 years but is now witnessing significant progress. The project is currently about 50 per cent completed, with funding reportedly secured for its execution.
The delegation also visited the Kaduna-Kano-Katsina-Maradi railway project, described as one of the region’s most strategic transportation initiatives.
The rail corridor is expected to connect several northern states to the Niger Republic, boosting interstate transportation, commerce and agricultural activities.
Construction work on the flyover bridge component of the trans-Sahara rail project in Kaduna is expected to be completed by December 2026.
At the Kano section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Highway, construction has reached approximately 95 per cent completion.
The team further inspected ongoing projects at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, including the Cardiovascular Centre, Paediatric Centre and Students’ Hostel, facilitated as constituency projects by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin.
Other projects visited in Kano included the N27 billion irrigation project in Garko under the Ecological Fund Office, the Energy Commission of Nigeria’s solar power initiative, and the 10-hectare Agricultural Incubation Centre established by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure at Bayero University, Kano, to promote modern agricultural solutions.
The delegation also toured the headquarters of the North West Development Commission located along Murtala Mohammed Way in Kano Government Reservation Area.
The commission is among the regional development agencies established by the Tinubu administration.
Also inspected was the N47 billion Wujuwuju-Jakara erosion and ecological intervention project, initially undertaken by the Kano State Government before being assumed by the Federal Government.
In Jigawa State, the Jigawa axis of the Kaduna-Kano-Katsina-Maradi railway project was found to be nearing completion.
Similarly, work is progressing steadily on the Kebbi section of the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway covering Phases 2A and 2B, spanning kilometre 120 to kilometre 385.
Ongoing work on the highway includes site clearance, earth filling, stone base and sub-surface construction, while concrete pavement and installation of streetlights have already covered about 19 kilometres.
Current completion levels stand at 40 per cent for Section 2A and 16 per cent for Section 2B.
“With these projects, among several others under construction and at various stages of completion across the North-West and the wider Northern region within just three years of the Tinubu administration, the future of infrastructure development in the North appears highly promising,” the statement added.
“Seeing is believing. Those alleging that the present administration has not been fair to the North in terms of developmental projects should visit these sites and assess the level of progress themselves. There is no doubt that the Tinubu administration has kept faith with the North.
“Contrary claims are largely driven either by early political calculations ahead of 2027 or opposition narratives,” the statement said.
