At the UNICAL ’87 Law Class Reunion in Calabar over the weekend, Senate President Godswill Akpabio assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu’s administration will establish a lasting legacy for future generations.
Akpabio made this statement while speaking to an audience of former classmates, senators, and university officials.
He acknowledged the current challenges facing the nation but attributed them to past administrations, stating, “The difficulties we see today are not the result of this administration but stem from years of mismanagement.”
Akpabio noted the crucial need for infrastructure, adding that “a country lacking essential infrastructure cannot thrive during economic hardships.”
However, he expressed optimism about the future, declaring, “Under President Tinubu, there is hope and a commitment to leave behind legacies that benefit posterity.”
Akpabio also led his classmates in courtesy visits to Cross River State Governor Prince Bassey Otu and UNICAL Vice-Chancellor Professor Florence Obi, where they discussed pressing issues, particularly in infrastructure. He announced a donation of two Coaster buses for both the Faculty of Law and the UNICAL Student Union Government.
Governor Otu, also a UNICAL alumnus, assured the class of the state government’s willingness to collaborate on their initiatives, stating, “We are ready to partner with you to enhance your contributions to the university.”
Justice Okon Abang, Patron of the ’87 Law Class, reflected on their shared journey and contributions to the legal field and national development, saying, “Our achievements are a testament to the impact we can make as a class.”
The reunion also featured a lecture by Ambassador Assam Assam (SAN), a Thanksgiving service at the UNICAL Chapel of Redemption, and the donation of law books to the Faculty of Law. In recognition of his contributions to the university, Akpabio received a bust statue from the Vice Chancellor.
