USAID partners with Lagos State government to boost water supply

• Promises to support Water Corporation with $40m

Lagos State Government, through the Lagos Water Corporation (LWC), has partnered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on revitalisation of the safe Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector.

The U.S. agency said it would assist the state government with 10 per cent of $400 million through the LWC. The USAID team, led by Dr. Joechim Ezeji, during a visit to LWC, yesterday, said that the visit was part of the mission to access the status of 45 million gallons per day Iju water works infrastructure. He said: “The move is the first step in enhancing urban water service delivery in Lagos State.”

which is expected to improve infrastructure, accountability, strengthen regulatory oversight in the state and boost financial and technical capabilities of water utilities and private sector water vendors.

“We want the poor people to get or feel the impact of the investment, as USAID is supporting/financing with 10 per cent of $400 million, which is about $40 to $44 million to support infrastructure rehabilitation, capacity-building, institutional strengthening, improvement of governance, among others.”
