Nigerian-American lawyer, Whint, sworn in as judge in US
A United States of America’s (USA) lawyer of Nigerian descent, Abayomi Ajaiyeoba Whint, has been sworn in as a judge for the Kings County New York Civil Court.
Whint’s experience spans over two decades. Within this period, the Nigerian-born lawyer has built a career as a litigator, certified mediator, and arbitrator specialising in conflict resolution.
She was nominated among eight candidates elected as judges in Brooklyn during the November 2024 elections by Brooklyn district leaders.
Her swearing-in ceremony was held at the Brooklyn Law School.
While reciting the oath of office, Whint pledged to discharge the duties of the office of judge for the Kings County New York Civil Court to the best of her ability.
The Nigerian Consul General, Ambassador Abubakar Jidda, and his wife hosted a banquet at the Nigerian Embassy in New York in recognition of her achievement.
