Nigerian artist based in Dubai Joel Onoriode Akpojivi aka DADDY K has donated books and other learning materials to pupils in a community in Delta State.

Akpojivi donated the learning materials to his Alma Mater Samrute Nursery & Primary school Udu road, Ovwian, Warri, Delta State where he attended from 1993 to 1999. He proceeded to Ovwian secondary school, Udu road from 2002 to 2008.

Some of the materials he donated include writing materials, textbooks, exercise books, lunch boxes, class desks and other learning materials.

Akpojivi said the aim of this donation to the schools is to encourage young kids and let them know that education is a key factor to their future.

“School was one of my favorite places growing up, I made a lot of friends and whenever school closed for holidays I always yearned for it to resume quickly,” Akpojivi said.

“Growing up we barely had enough materials or books in school because public schools were mostly underfunded. So this donation is my own little way of helping the younger generation have the chances I didn’t in my day.”

Akpojivi, a self taught graphic artist and painter said he was inspired to donate these materials because “school was one of my favorite places growing up, I made a lot of friends and whenever school closed for holidays I always yearned for it to resume quickly.”

He also called on his friends and other well meaning Deltans to always look towards home. He said government alone cannot power development and so needs help from the private sector and individuals to provide an enabling environment for learning in schools.
