The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) has urged the Federal Government to encourage innovators, as over reliance on imported items has led to a near decimation of the manufacturing industry, resulting in high unemployment and underemployment.

The Chairman, NSE, Engr. Fumilade Akingbagbohun, speaking on the maiden Inno-Creative Fair of the society slated for June 17 to 21, 2019 at NSE, Ikeja branch secretariat, noted that engineering is the bedrock of development and lack of encouragement has scared away many innovators from the sector.

“This has triggered the need to encourage homegrown engineering and technology innovators, who have the capacity of meeting the technological objective of different sectors of the industry,” he said.

Akingbagbohun said the fair would showcase potential skills and talents of Nigerian students, graduates and industries making waves in the engineering sector.

The Chairman, Planning Committee of Innovation and Creative Fair, Engr. Tosin Ogunmola said the fair was an avenue for innovators to connect with investors in the engineering industry.

“It is part of our responsibility to join forces with other professionals and stakeholders in the country to tackle engineering challenges within our environment,” he said.

According to him, as part of the fair, lectures would also be deliver by Eng. Nimot Muili and Engr Idris Oladele on ‘Artificial intelligence’ while Prof. Musa Aibinu would deliver paper on Mechatronic.
