Nigerian saxophonist awaits Guinness World Records confirmation after 38-hour performance

A Nigerian saxophonist, Gbemileke Samuel Adekeye, fondly called G-Effect, has completed a 38-hour nonstop performance in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record.

The achievement surpasses the current record of 33 hours held by Portuguese saxophonist Elvis Nunes Sousa, who set the feat in 2025.

Speaking at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, where the marathon performance was held, Adekeye said although he was unable to meet his original 40-hour target, the challenge was meant to inspire young Nigerians to look beyond limitations and chase their dreams with resilience and determination.

“My inspiration comes from trying to lay a legacy and inspire the younger generation not to look at any limitation or barrier to whatever they set out to do,” he said.

Samuel also revealed that he hopes to bring global recognition back to Nigeria by surpassing the Portuguese record holder.

“The current champion is from Portugal; so presently I want to bring Nigeria’s name into the limelight again,” he added.

The saxophonist described the attempt as physically and mentally demanding, noting that preparations for the record-breaking feat began over a year ago.

“I’ve been preparing for over a year now. I believe with God on my side, it is possible,” he said.

Project Manager, Ademiluyi Michael, described the marathon attempt as a long-term dream that has been in development for over two years.

“It has been our dream  to have this done over two years ago, and we thought it wise to support this laudable ambition and make sure it becomes reality,” he explained.

He also clarified that while no official Guinness World Records representative is physically present at the venue, certified witnesses and timekeepers are documenting every stage of the attempt in line with Guinness World Records guidelines.
