Nigerians abroad remit $26 billion
Detained artists get legal representation in Uganda
Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said $26 billion was remitted last year by citizens residing abroad as foreign direct investment (FDI) amid their engagement by government on national development.
Making the disclosure at the launch of the ‘Think Nigeria Diaspora’ symposium organised by the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA) in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday in Abuja, she said the current administration had adopted a number of strategies to reach out to the overseas-based Nigerians.
On the three Nigerian artists detained in Uganda “for negligently doing acts likely to spread an infection”, Dabiri-Erewa said lawyers had been deployed to ensure their speedy release.
“As I speak with you, they are with them right now. So, they will soon come back,” she added.
