The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has promoted more than 240 staff members, including nine new directors, in what the agency described as a move to strengthen efficiency and motivate its workforce.
The promotion, ratified by the agency’s governing board, elevated nine deputy directors to directors, 30 assistant directors to deputy directors, and 35 chiefs to assistant directors. A further 169 officers were advanced to the next grade level.
Those promoted to director level include the Coordinator of the Abuja Liaison Office, Moji Jimoh; Director of Internal Audit, Odunayo Ani; Special Adviser to the Director-General, Nneka Obianyor; and Director of Procurement, Biodun Fatade. Others are Oma Ofodile, Gloria Anyasodo, Abdulahi Yelwa, Umar Buba, and Umar Ibrahim Sidi.
Announcing the exercise, NIMASA’s Director-General, Dayo Mobereola, said the development underlined management’s commitment to staff welfare and a transparent career progression system.
“Our administration is committed to improved staff welfare. This promotion exercise is strictly merit-based, and we expect staff to reciprocate by rededicating themselves to higher productivity. We will continue to prioritise staff welfare while counting on your commitment to the ideals of the agency in helping management actualise its mandate. See your elevation as motivation for higher performance,” Mobereola said.
The DG urged the newly promoted officers to view their elevation not as a reward but as a responsibility to deliver greater results in the maritime sector, which is a key revenue earner for the federal government.
NIMASA has faced increasing pressure to boost efficiency in the maritime industry amid global competition and rising demands for improved safety, security, and revenue generation.
The agency hopes that the latest round of promotions will help drive its mandate of regulating shipping, ensuring safety at sea, and fostering Nigeria’s blue economy ambitions.
The board expressed confidence that the exercise would inspire staff across the agency to embrace professionalism, accountability, and excellence.
