NLAR marks world arthritis day

Consultant Rheumatologist with Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Femi Adelowo, has said arthritis is not a spiritual attack, so it can be treated medically.

Speaking at the celebration of World Arthritis Day by Nigeria League of Associations of Rheumatology (NLAR) Adelowo said there are more than 100 types of arthritis and their treatments are different.

He said patients should avoid self-medication but seek intervention of specialists for proper treatments of the disease.Adelowo said avoiding lifting of heavy object is one way to prevent the commonest types of arthritis, which include rheumatoid, psoriatic and fibromyalgia.
