NLC gives Bello deadline to release workers’ screening report

Labour has issued a two-week ultimatum to Kogi State government to release the report of the review committee on workers’ screening.

It also raised the alarm that over 45 per cent of workers in the state are yet to receive their salaries.

The state workforce has been facing serious issues as the NLC chairman himself was declared a ghost worker during the screening.

The state chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Onu Edoka, who gave the indication at the end of its executive council meeting, however, urged government to expedite action on the report.

He alleged that salaries of almost half of the workforce have been stopped even when the screening has not been concluded. He said the congress had set up an 11-man committee to review the report whenever it was made available and come up with the position of the organised Labour.

The NLC boss urged leaders of the various industrial unions in the state to be more responsive to the issues of welfare of their members, asking them to live up to expectations.

He commended the joint action committee of higher institutions in the state for attending to the needs of their members.
