The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano branch, has described as ‘complete mix-up’ a list circulated by the Kano State government, comprising workers that were not captured in the recent biometric exercise conducted in the state.

It would be recalled that the State’s Head of Service, Muhammad Auwal Na’Iya revealed that the committee handling the workers verification exercise identified about 7,629 workers that couldn’t be captured by the exercise, as a result of which government made a savings of N283,580,848 for the month of April.

But in a swift reaction, the NLC, through its state chairman, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir, said that the exercise might not have taken into cognizance workers that were undergoing trainings outside the country.

He said, “Also, some pensioners are not residing in the country after their service, but yet are bona fide pensioners of the state. We also identified some mix-ups in the data provided some state organs as part of their staff list, where it will interest you that, my humble self, who is the number one labour leader in the state, after duly being captured in my area of assignment, was among the list submitted from my former station as part of those who have not appeared for the exercise.”

Noting that some assistant directors from Audit and directors from local governments were also among the list, he said that even some executive members of the state NLC were captured in the list of those who have not shown up for biometrics capture.
