Chairman of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr. Emmanuel Ndukwe, has disclosed that the Board has no plan to extend the registration date for candidates for undertaking the 2019/2020 examinations.

Ndukwe, who disclosed this to reporters while monitoring the ongoing registration at some Computer Based Test (CBT) centres in Lagos, said the February 21 deadline for the registration process remains sacrosanct.

“I don’t foresee an extension, we have to stick to the date we have given the public. If we start now thinking about extension, it doesn’t portray our seriousness.

“Some of the places we visited have many systems, but just a few candidates. Let them be mindful of the closing date,” he noted.
The JAMB boss also justified the ban on some cyber cafes for the registration process, saying they are responsible for various malpractices and fraud in the registration process.

According to him: “There was this meeting we held at the University of Lagos last December, where cyber cafes and other places that are not CBT centres because of a lot of discrepancies we noticed, were stopped from registering candidates.

“What we saw is that the Registrar, Prof. Ishiaq Oloyede, is very right in banning cyber cafes. We found out that most of the fraudulent things that happened took place at the cyber cafes and that is why we banned them.

“Right now, any centre that we find not complying will be sanctioned and once you sanction one or two centres, others would sit up. So far, we have not heard complaints emanating from such previous practices that were noticed in the cyber cafes, especially over-charging candidates. “

On the centres visited, Ndukwe expressed satisfaction with the registration process, saying there are great improvements from the previous years. He said: “I must say that I’m very impressed with all I have seen in all the centres visited. I have no reason to complain and even the candidates are very happy the way JAMB has harmonised this registration process.”

At the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Ashem Academy Limited, Yaba and JKK Centre, Ikorodu Road, Anthony, the coordinators lauded JAMB for the process, saying the exercise is a lot better than previous years.
