NOA, Niger Rep partner to sensitise electorate against vices
The federal government has reaffirmed its determination to continue raising awareness of the dangers of social vices that have been bedevilling society, such as drug and substance abuse, banditry, sexual and gender-based violence, trafficking in persons, ritual killings, radicalization, violent extremism, and cybercrime.
The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, gave this assurance at a one-day sensitization campaign against social vices. The event, organised in collaboration with the Federal Lawmaker representing Chanchaga federal constituency in the National Assembly, Abubakar Abdull Buba, was held in Minna, Niger State, on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Lanre said that the sensitisation campaign has become imperative due to the myriad social vices affecting every section of Nigerian society in recent times.
The NOA D.G., represented by the Director of Public Enlightenment and Mass Mobilization, Mrs. Theresa Maduekwe, noted that Chanchaga federal constituency is not exempt from social vices, stating that the prevalence of such issues, especially among the youth, has become worrisome not only in Chanchaga constituency but in society at large.
He added, “NOA, through its thematic intervention program areas of crime, lawlessness, health, environment, education, abuse, and nationalism, and with the support of stakeholders, will continue to coordinate, strengthen, and support efforts aimed at stemming these vices to promote national development.”
The NOA boss commended Abubakar Abdull Buba for his efforts in educating his constituency.
In his keynote address, the Federal Lawmaker representing Chanchaga federal constituency under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the National Assembly, Abubakar Abdull Buba, stated that, as a representative of the people, he is committed to positively impacting the lives of his constituents.
He promised to leave no stone unturned in changing the narrative across all spheres of human endeavour in his constituency, utilising various platforms, including the NOA, to achieve set objectives.
The lawmaker, who spoke through his Senior Legislative Aide, Barrister Usman Auta, reiterated that he has put in place various measures aimed at empowering youths and women to become self-reliant.
Buba said the sensitisation is timely, highlighting the need for attitudinal change among all citizens to create a crime-free society.
He expressed appreciation to the National Orientation Agency (NOA) for its nationwide awareness campaign aimed at attitudinal reorientation, encouraging Nigerians to shun social vices and embrace values that promote peaceful existence among the populace.
