JIGAWA State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has arrested illegal dealers in petroleum products, popularly called black marketers, as part of moves to check fuel scarcity in the state.

The State Commandant, Dr. Gidado Fari, who disclosed this to newsmen yesterday, said his command had earlier issued a warning to the perpetrators of the illegal business before invading the surroundings of the NNPC mega station situated at Kiyawa Road opposite FRSC office based on intelligence report, adding that the suspects upon sighting the officers took to their heels leaving behind 47 jerry cans filled with petrol.

According to him, the jerry cans were seized and taken to the NSCDC office as exhibits, adding that those involved are sabotaging the efforts of the government to make fuel available.

Meanwhile, the state Command of the NSCDC has also observed with dismay the sudden increase in the pump price of petroleum products across the 27 local councils in the state, adding that henceforth, any filling station selling above N87 would be closed down.

Fari said such practice is unethical and must be stopped.
