The Edo State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) yesterday, said it destroyed eight illegal refineries in the state between May and June and also confiscated a total of 53, 640 liters of adulterated diesel.

Commandant of the corps, Walter Akubuiroh also disclosed that nine suspects arrested in connection with the illegal activities, were being investigated before charging them to court.

He said the eight illegal refineries destroyed were located at Obazagbon, near Ehor in Uhuwode Local Council of the state.

The commandant explained that the area was where four similar refineries, hidden inside the forest, were destroyed by the command in April.

The NSCDC boss said the diesel were concealed in 21 drums of 20 liters, nine jerry cans of 20 liters, 432 jerry cans of 20 liters and 45,000 liters tankers with registration No AWK 844 XJ.

“The drums and jerry cans were being conveyed by five J5 buses which were all arrested at different times and locations in the state. We are amazed by the activities of these people, because the more we destroy, the more they go back to their illegal business.

“This illegal activitie is believed to enjoy the support of highly placed network of people in the society. We are not afraid of them; we will fight them to submission,” he added.
